After months of preparation, Oxford's 23 Things programme is now up and running! I was really keen to be involved in running this, as ever since I came across the original program I thought it was a great way for non-technologically-minded people who might never otherwise take the plunge to learn about web 2.0 tools and technologies. Having a couple of small tasks a week spread out over an extended period seems to me to be a great way to learn a lot without feeling overwhelmed, and also to make it easier to find time to do so. I really hope a lot of people sign up and follow along and find the programme fun and useful!
Our 23 Things programme has been put together and is being run by a group of five of us, from different roles and libraries - myself, Laura Wilkinson, Emma Cragg, Angela Carritt and Penny Schenk. We are each taking responsibility for different weeks of the programme, and I'm looking after weeks two (blogs) and nine (wikis). We will all be following the programme along ourselves too, and I'm looking forward to completing the tasks myself. 23 Things is designed to be do-able by people with all sorts of different levels of experience with web 2.0. The tasks themselves are very basic, but there is scope for people to explore further, so if they are already familiar with a tool they can use the time to learn something that is new to them. Looking at the tasks ahead I know that even though I am familiar on at least a basic level with all the tools we are covering, there are plenty of areas within them that I haven't really explored fully, and I'm excited to see how everyone else gets on too.
